Yet again another shooting in America. A 21 year old white male identified as Dylann Roof entered Emmanuel AME church in Charleston, South Carolina during a Bible study. He sat there and then began shooting participants killing nine including the pastor of this church.
The Emanuel AME church was built in the 1700s by freed slaves and has served the African American community for more than 200 years. The shooter, Dylann Roof acknowledged that he attacked the church out of hatred for Black people. He accused the entire race of raping and other atrocities and said that they “had to go.” Facebook pictures of him show him with a car with Confederate flags as well as the flags of South Africa during the apartheid era.
According to friends, roof often said racist things and wanted segregation. He also repeated the 9th grade and eventually dropped out of high school. During his hearing, he replied “no” to the judges question regarding employment.
He was arrested over 200 miles from the church and apparently told police that he “almost didn’t go through with it because everyone was so nice to him.” He also stated that he wanted to start a race war.
Let us pray for the victims, the families of the victims and for the perpetrator as well.
I will update this post as more information comes in.
